Mmabatho Kau has been in the South African film and television industry since 1998, working her way up from being a production secretary to being a commissioning editor with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). After graduating from Rhodes University with a degree in Journalism and Media studies, Mmabatho honed her skills working on initiatives such as M-Net’s New Directions as a trainee producer. She then formed part of the first production team to produce content for the Afrikaans network Kyk-Net. She has worked in various capacities including content producer, script editor and series producer on shows such as Big Brother South Africa, Backstage, Soul City 6 and Tsha Tsha (SABC 1). She was awarded a Chevening Scholarship in 2004, by the United Kingdom High Commission to study in the UK and acquired her Master of Science in Media Management from the University of Stirling, Scotland. On her return she worked for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) as a commissioning editor. Her love for story-telling and film led her to script-editing and lecturing for the National Film and Video Foundation. She is now focusing her energy on building her own television and film production company, Homemade Films, which is dedicated to creating entertainment content that brings about social change and transforms lives through entertainment.
