Quizzical Pictures past intern network
Quizzical Pictures, which celebrated its 25th Birthday last year is looking to make contact with people who have worked with them as interns over the last 25 years. They would like to start a Quizzical Pictures alumni network which can meet periodically and provide support and networking opportunities.
“We know there are scores of people out there” explains managing director Harriet Gavshon. “Many of them are still in contact with us and have worked consistently on our productions, but there are some that we have lost contact with. We’d like to find them.”
Over the last five years, the internship programme has been run with the help of the MICT Seta and the NFVF. It has allowed Quizzical Pictures and Rhythm City to take on up to eight interns for a full year. Before that, the programme was run internally, and different kinds of models were tried out. In all, Quizzical Pictures has trained hundreds of people.
“We have found that taking a few people for a year-long programme works best” says Intern and Operations manager Lebohang Nteo. “It allows enough time for interns to gain real skills and confidence to go out into the industry.”
Some interns are employed immediately on Quizzical Productions and some have been employed full-time in the organisation. “Some have gone on to great success and that is extremely gratifying” says Gavshon. “We would like to think we have played a small part in setting people on their journey in the industry and we would like to see if we can continue to support them and encourage them to support others.”
