shnit Worldwide Short Film Festival Call for Entries
The shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival is a celebration of short films and the people who make them. Each year we select the best short films from around the world; stories that make us laugh, make us cry, that speak to us, that inspire us; and bring them to our audience.
Cape Town was the third city on board, back in 2010. Since then the festival has grown to include Buenos Aires, Bangkok, Cairo, Hong Kong, Moscow, San Jose, with a global award ceremony hosted in New York City. This year, we’re aiming to make Cape Town the best of the lot, again.
You saw we said 2010, right? So holy cow you guys, this year marks the tenth edition of the shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival in Cape Town! A decade is a pretty decent milestone, right? Over 10 years of shnit in Cape Town, we’ve screened over 240 South African shorts in and out of competition, hosted 40,000 audience members in the city and surrounds, hosted over 400 local filmmakers, over 25 panels and masterclasses, produced 19 films through the Realtime competition, awarded 27 prizes and seen multitudes of local filmmakers go on to SA and international success. Globally we’ve given away hundreds of thousands of Dollars in prize money, predicted Oscar-winning and nominated shorts and felt the impact of short film in as many as 30 cities.
It’s our tenth year, so it’s about time you join the family.
So, speaking of amazing short films – that’s where YOU come in! This whole festival wouldn’t be possible with you, the creators, submitting your work in the first place! And guess what – you can do that right now.
Entry is FREE to South Africans submitting work into the Made in South Africa competition (that means automatic eligibility into all global competitions free of charge). If you are an African filmmaker, please contact us directly at ca******@pl*********.org – if you give us a reason, we’ll give you a promo code. Simple! Head over onto FilmFreeway for details on how to enter – if you have any queries, mail us at ca******@pl*********.org
