NFVF and SPCINE Launch Development Fund at Cannes Producers Network
Terrence Khumalo, the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Manager for the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), participated in a significant session titled “Panorama of Co-Productions Between Brazil and South Africa: Afro-Diasporic Perspectives in Cinema and Audiovisual” at the Cannes Film Festival’s Producers Network. This session highlighted the growing collaboration between the film industries of Brazil and South Africa, focusing on their shared Afro-Diasporic heritage.
During the session, the NFVF and SPCINE (São Paulo Film Commission) announced the launch of a new Development Fund aimed at fostering co-productions between the two countries. This initiative will select two projects from South Africa and two from Brazil, supporting filmmakers in both regions to develop their unique narratives and contribute to a diverse global cinema landscape.
The call for submissions will open in June 2024, with the final selection results announced in March 2025. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both NFVF and SPCINE to promote cultural exchange and enhance the representation of Afro-Diasporic stories in the global film industry.
