Opportunity To Be Nominated By The IPO For The 2024 Global Media Makers LA Residency

We are excited to announce that Film Independent has invited the IPO to nominate five filmmakers for the 2024 Global Media Makers LA Residency! This is a once in a lifetime career-enhancing opportunity, offering a platform to workshop your developing story into the best filmic product it could be, under the guidance and mentorship of some of the most experienced producers in the USA. It is also an incredible networking and growth opportunity.

Since its launch in 2016, Global Media Makers has become a significant filmmaking network, connecting visual storytellers from around the world with leading USA entertainment professionals, through specially tailored mentorships, workshops and master classes. The Residency programme has brought more than 150 film, television and new media makers to Los Angeles from 21 countries across Africa and Asia. To date, 24 GMM-supported projects have been produced and premiered at top international film festivals including at Cannes 2023 and 2020, Berlin 2021, Tribeca 2021 and TIFF 2021.

Nominees must be mid-career film, television and new media creators from the continent. Nominated candidates may apply as either an individual or as a two-person creative team working together on the same project. Preference will be given to creative teams consisting of writer/director, writer/producer or director/producer, but individuals will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Fellows are selected with a project in development that focuses on local issues of importance in their country or region. They participate in filmmaking tracks focused on screenwriting, directing, creative producing or documentary filmmaking where they develop their current projects. Review details of the eligibility and nomination criteria and more information about the Residency programme here.

Nominations are due to the IPO no later than 17:00 on 10 August 2023. Please submit your nomination(s) to ad***********@ip*.za  with “Global Media Makers 2024 application: your names(s)” as the subject line.

Nominations will be assessed by a panel of four IPO Exco members. After a careful review we will put forward our five selected candidates to GMM by 17 August 2023 and will announce our selection the same day. Thereafter GMM will contact qualified nominated candidates with instructions to complete their online application form, and then their internal selection process begins.
